Graduate Work Study Assistantships
Overview:
Federal Work Study is a federal financial aid need-based program whereby the federal government pays a portion of your salary.
Binghamton University offers graduate students Federal Work Study (FWS) employment. If you are interested in working to pay for your education, you must first complete the Free Applications for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). FAFSA's are available at the Office of Student Financial Aid (SW-109), the Graduate School (AD-134), most high school counseling offices, or on the web at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/.
Once the FAFSA has been completed,
you may then complete the on-line
Work Study application.
At the time this application is completed, it will also be helpful to
check your Financial Aid status. You can do this by visiting the BUSI
Web Center and clicking on the "Check FA Status" button
on the left side bar.
Eligibility for Graduate Work Study:
If you are not a US citizen or a Permanent Resident, you are not eligible for Federal Work Study.
Only full-time matriculated graduate students who are in good academic
standing (at least 3.0 GPA) and who have financial need, as determined by the FAFSA processing center, qualify for Federal Work Study.
Binghamton's Financial Aid Office is ultimately responsible for determining whether or not you are eligible for FWS, based on your expected family contribution and FAFSA data. Should FWS be awarded, it becomes part of your financial aid package and other aid eligibility previously awarded may need to be adjusted.
Please note: If you have not completed a FAFSA,
your application for Graduate Work Study will be left pending until
the FAFSA is processed. If you wish to determine whether or not your
FAFSA has been processed, visit the BUSI
Web Center and click on the "Check FA Status" button on
the left side bar.
