General Directions
Any individual who has completed an undergraduate degree may take classes as a Continuing Education student at Binghamton University. The application process requires completion of a brief, online application and submission of a copy of a transcript that verifies conferral of the undergraduate degree, and a $25 processing fee. Admission is automatic. Creating a student record does require an overnight process, but within three days of completing the online application and submitting the processing fee, Continuing Education applicants are eligible to register for classes using the BUSI system.
The instructions for completing the online Continuing Education application follow. Feel free to contact the Graduate School at (607) 777-2151 with questions.
- Complete the entire online application and click on the "Submit" button.
- Submit (in person or via mail) to the Graduate School a check or money order (no cash, please) for $25 and a copy of an undergraduate transcript showing proof of conferral of an undergraduate degree. These may be mailed to:

- International students must also present the results of the TOEFL scores, unless their undergraduate degree was earned at an English-speaking institution.
- Permanent Residents must provide a photocopy of the Permanent Residency card.
- Within approximately one week, you will receive an admission offer letter, along with a health insurance form. Continuing Education students taking less than 12 credits need to complete only the immunization portion of the health form (persons born prior to 1/1/1957 are exempt); if you intend to register for 12 or more credits, you will also need to submit evidence of a physical examination and proof of a PPD tuberculin skin test. (The University Health Service provides tuberculin screening tests free of charge.) For more details on the health requirements, click here.
Note: Registration for classes by Continuing Education students is limited to specific dates and times; in addition, some programs (i.e., the School of Management) limit admission by Continuing Education students to certain specified classes. Always consult with the area in which you wish to enroll for registration details.
Submitting Your Undergraduate Transcript
In addition to completing the online application, you must provide a transcript from the institution where you received your undergraduate degree; the transcript must state that the degree was awarded. However, it is not necessary to provide any transcripts for undergraduate or graduate education received from Binghamton University. (In addition, it is not necessary to provide transcripts that were previously submitted to Binghamton University during a prior undergraduate admissions procedure. Transcripts submitted during a previous graduate application may already be on file; contact the Graduate School to verify.)
Important reminders
Make sure that you have completed the entire online application before hitting the submit button. If you have any records under another name, please note this on the application form ("Former last name") and cross-reference all documents to avoid confusion or loss. If you provide your e-mail address, you will be notified by e-mail that your application has been received.
Accuracy of Materials:
It is important that your application and the materials you submit are accurate and complete.
Property of Materials:
All materials submitted in support of your application become the property of Binghamton University. We cannot return these materials (or copies of these materials) to applicants.
